Chalk full of history, Sevilla has a blend of Roman, Moorish, and Catholic roots, having once been ruled by each empire at various times. All of these influences are still evident in the architecture and atmosphere of the city - from the old Roman ruins to the beautiful Moorish-style gardens to the third largest cathedral in the world. In addition to a varied history, Sevilla still maintains a rich Spanish culture almost untainted by modernization. Flamenco performances, the traditional song, guitar, and dance born in Andalucía, can be found in many bars and taverns throughout the city almost every night of the year. Sevilla is known for it's traditional celebrations, and throughout your stay in Sevilla you are bound to witness many of these, which occur frequently. La Semana Santa (the Catholic Holy Week) and La Feria (the spring festival) are two of the biggest festivals in Sevilla (and Spain), they draw crowds from all over the world. Besides the festivals, the traditional tapas of Sevilla are exceptionally delicious and served on almost every corner in small little bars radiating an authentic Spanish feel.
Another aspect of Sevilla that makes it so unique is its laid-back schedule. Nothing ever feels rushed in Sevilla - people take their time to enjoy their meals, their company, and their surroundings. There is even a designated "siesta", or nap time, usually from 2-5 pm. During this time most shops close and everyone goes home to eat lunch and rest before returning to work in the evening. Dinner isn't usually eaten until ten and the nightlife in Sevilla doesn't usually start until well after midnight. The nightlife in Sevilla has something to offer for everyone almost every night of the week: small corner bars, open-aired terraces in the summer, bigger sports bars, and various "discotecas", or clubs.
Sevilla's location in the Southern region of Spain makes it one of the warmest cities in Europe.
